EARLIER:AmbulanceVictoria has praised quick-thinking bystanders who came to the aid of a young boy injured in a bike crash at Kangaroo Flat.
Paramedics were called to High Street when a primary school-aged boy fell from his push bike and was run over by a car yesterday afternoon.
Intensive care paramedic Mal Whitehead said the boy suffered serious injuries.
“The boy suffered head injuries, significant fractures to his pelvis and leg and possible internal injuries,” he said.
“We stabilised his condition at the scene and he was taken to Bendigo Base Hospital in a critical condition.
“Paramedics were focused on treating the boy, so we weren’t able to thank a number of bystanders who came to help and make the boy comfortable just after the crash.
“A man stayed with the boy, talking to him while we treated him. Others provided shade while the boy was still on the road.
“While it might have been a distressing scene for people to see, the fact they stopped to help would’ve provided some comfort to the boy, so we want to say thanks.”
The boy was later transferred by air ambulance helicopter to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.
