Picture: PAUL CARRACHERHORSHAM Lawn’s junior tennis side has inflicted a heavy loss on Laharum at the weekend, claiming a clean-sweep of its eight set match on Saturday morning.
Lawn barely gave its opposition a chance, conceding just eight games across the morning’s play as it put together an emphatic 8-48 to 0-8 triumph.
In another relatively one-sided encounter in the section one boys competition, Quantong was too good for Central Park, winning 6-41 to 2-23.
Matches were much closer in the section one girls rubbers at the weekend, as Haven Orange and Central Park Red scraped home in two nail-biting results.
In a tight tussle, Haven Orange squeezed past Quantong 4-42 to 4-37, while Central Park Red did enough to beat Haven Red with a thrilling 4-40 to 4-37 win.
In the top division’s third and final rubber on Saturday, Central Park Yellow combined beautifully for a comfortable 7-45 to 1-15 victory against Natimuk.
In section two boys matches, Horsham Lawn claimed another big scalp, beating Central Park 4-40 to 4-31, while Haven had no issues dispatching Laharum 8-48 to 0-20.
In the girls rubbers, Haven never gave Natimuk a chance in their match, winning 8-48 to 0-10, while Central Park asserted its authority against Quantong in its 7-43 to 1-22 triumph.
In the third match of the day, Haven Green forfeited to Horsham Lawn.
In section three boys, Haven sides and Central Park all had strong wins against their opponents.
Haven Blue beat Horsham Lawn 6-38 to 2-26 while Haven’s Brown team defeated Natimuk 7-45 to 1-13.
Haven’s third side –its green team –was not as lucky as the other two, going down to Central Park 7-42 to 1-28.
It was competitive throughout matches, but could not convert that into more than one set triumph.
In the girls section three matches, Central Park Purple did not drop a set in its 6-36 to 0-18 win against Horsham Lawn Green, while Central Park Red and Central Park were not so lucky, losing to Natimuk and Haven Yellow respectively.
In a thrilling, see-sawing encounter to close the section three rubbers, Haven and Horsham Lawn Gold could not be separated.
In a nail-biting draw, the scores were tied at 3-29 apiece.
Section four and five matches were highlighted by relatively close results.
