L&D Cricket Club and the LSC Coltsplayed out a nail-biter over the weekend in the Leeton District Cricket Association first grade competition.

In the end it was L&D who squeaked out the win thanks largely to a Mitchell Hardie half-century.

Colts won the toss and elected to bat first and got off to a shaky start right away.

Matthew O’Callaghan (1) andDylan Barnes (0) both fell early and left the Colts 2-8.

GlennVitnell (4) hung around for a bit but Hardie took his second wicket of the day Colts were 3-26 and in some stride.

This broughtNathan Carn andJarryd Day to the crease who continued their hot starts to the season.

The pair went about their partnership at a steady rate and were about to bring up their century stand beforeAdrian Axtill was thrown the ball.

He took the wicket of Carn (58) with the score at 117 and from there Colts couldn’t really muster up a late innings onslaught.

Axtill claimed another two wickets to finish with figures of 3-9 off four overs to help restrict Colts to a score of 7-135 off their 40 overs.

Slow starts seemed to be the name of the game as L&D also got off to a rocky start in their innings.

Reece Maguire (0) and Axtill (4) both fell early to the bowling ofJosh Carn to leave L&D 2-8 early on.

Hardie and Chris Cox then steadied the ship as they brought the score over 50.

When Cox (13) was dismissedL&D were in agood position but still had work to do.

Steve Campbell combined with the already settled Hardie to give his team exactly what they needed.

The pair brought up their 50 stand, but just as quickly as they accomplished that feat, it was broken.

This brought about a mini collapse that saw Colts get right back in the game.

Billy Dickinson took the wickets of Hardie (50) and thenJustin Kelly for a duck.

L&D were now 6-117 with both established batsmen back in the sheds.

L&D’sBen Elwin then proved the hero towards the end of the game, notching an unbeaten 13 to secure the two wicket win for his side.

This is L&D’s second win on the trot after starting the season winless after four rounds.

L&D have the by this week while the Colts take on Narrandera Carpheads.
