Picture: Anna WarrMacarthur’s Team Steel 32 earned lifelong bragging rights and $20,000 as their custom cart reigned supreme at the Red Bull Billy Cart race at Centennial Parklands, Sydney on November 15.
Mount Annan’s Mick Warren, 42, his son Jordan, 17, Narellan’s Ryan Baldacchino, 32, and Jordan Clearly, 18, led the Team Steel 32 and their Harbour Bridge-inspired billy cart to victory in a thrilling downhill run.
The team dazzled the crowds before the race with their 30 second performance at the starting line.
The crowd got behind the Macarthur team as the two Jordans pushed Ryan and Mick down the 500m track.
‘‘The drive down the hill was amazing — the adrenaline rush was huge [and] to hear the crowd cheering for us once [when] we had come to a stop was just awesome,’’ Mr Warren said.
‘‘Then to see we had just got a perfect score from all the judges and got the second fastest run of the day made it even more exciting.’’

Mr Warren said the team always had great expectations for their cart and was amazed all their plans came to life before their eyes.
‘‘There were hundreds of hours spent on the build, from the day we got the letter three months ago and within days we had material [to start],’’ he said.
While the team won on the track, Mr Warren felt proud of the praise the team received for their cart off the track.
‘‘Meeting Robert Maddison was very cool but then to have Jamie Wincup and Craig Lowndes’ race engineers looking over the billy cart and admiring the hard work we had put into it was a very satisfying feeling,’’ he said.
‘‘Then just talking to the public and watching all these people walk past and pointing it out to their friends and taking photos…was great.’’
Mr Warren thanked the team’s families, friends and sponsors DAM Structural Steel, Steelforce, Peter Snells Protective Coatings, DNA Cycles Narellan, Ultimate Karting Sydney, GTS Films, Totally Workwear Gregory Hills and Australian Weighing Equipment for their support.
