Campbelltown mayor Paul Hawker is encouraging locals to donate perishable foods and presents to this years Mayoral Christmas Appeal. Picture: Jeff de PasqualeFor some Campbelltown residents, the festive season is anything but a time to celebrate.
However, Campbelltown mayor Paul Hawker said his Christmas Appeal aimed to put the ‘‘merry’’ back in merry Christmas.
‘‘For some members of our community, Christmas can be a particularly difficult and lonely time, with no presents under the tree and no network of family or friends to share a meal with on Christmas Day,’’ he said.
‘‘I encourage residents to give generously to assist people in need at this special time of year, and to help share the goodwill in whatever way you can.
‘‘I am very proud of Campbelltown’s magnificent community spirit, with the thoughtful support and generous giving of so many making it a truly wonderful place to live, work and play.’’
Cr Hawker said perishable food items and unwrapped presents can be dropped off at council’s civic centre on the corner of Queen Street and Broughton Street before 4.30pm on Monday, December 21.
