MINISTERfor Agriculture Leon Bignell will host a public forum on drought in Naracoorte today.
StateGovernment Ministers have travelled to the regionfor Country Cabinet this week and will take part in the forum.
Mr Bignell will be speaking at the open event at the Naracoorte Hotel-Motel from 1pm along with representatives from theState Government, the Bureau of Meteorology and members of the local community.
“The State Government has been working to respond to hardship as a result of two years ofbelow average rainfall in the South East,” Mr Bignell said.
“Earlier this month (November 6), a workshop was held to discuss how the community, government agencies, industry and regional leaders can work together to tackle hardship inthe region.
“Feedback from the workshop revealed it was a very useful way to understand existing andcurrent support programs and what should be strengthened if times get even tougher.
“The next step is for farmers and the public to share their experiences at the forum and to givefeedback as to the steps which can be taken in the future.
“We have also been working collaboratively with the Federal Government and applications arecurrently open for Round Two of the Drought Concessional Loan Scheme with $10 millionavailable in South Australia in 2015-16.
“We want as many eligible farm businesses to receive this financial help. PIRSA staff havebeen visiting affected regions to meet with farmers individually to discuss the applicationprocess and national guidelines.
“We believe this will help deliver loans to farmers who need them the most.
“The State Government is committed to ensuring they get the support they need and I urge allfarmers in the community to come along to the forum.
“We need to hear from you to better understand how we can help.”
The forum will be held at the Naracoorte Hotel today from 1pm and people shouldregister their attendance at 梧桐夜网pir.sa.gov419论坛/dryforum.
