LIFESAVERS: Windang Bowling Club have pledged support to the Rookie program. Funds have been used to purchase T-shirts and rash-vests. Windang Surf Life Saving Club has resurrected its Rookie Lifesaver Program.
This was introduced into Surf Life Saving Illawarra during the 1997/1998 season, beingdeveloped to assist with the education and retention of12- to15-year-old members.
The Rookie Lifesaver Program is aimed at developingfuture surf lifesavers in the areas of surf education, beach management and related career paths within the surf lifesaving movement.
The program dwindled during recentyears, but some of the new Rookies are children of the original Rookie co-coordinators.
Kaye Norris andSteve Watson, who started the Windang program now have children who are Rookies.
With daughter Alyssa now keen on joining the ranks, Norris,along with husband Jayson and fellow Rookie co-coordinator Doug Hockey are back driving buses, organising excursions and teaching valuableskills.
